Fall is hands down my favourite season. I love being able to include more layers in my outfits to adapt to the change in temperature. While I was living in Mexico City it was hard to put these outfits together without getting hot an hour later. But every time the weather app hit 13°C, you’d see me there with one of my fall essentials.
The best way to build a diverse fall wardrobe is to start with a few basics and then add key pieces that make the outfit stand out.
Boots
I love my knee-high boots! They are one of my favourite pieces in my entire closet; they are sexy and comfortable, and they’re great at protecting my legs from the cold. They can be used in many ways, day or night, with or without pantyhose, and they will always make you look more put together. Mine are from Shasa, they’re super affordable and comfy and I love them!
For those relaxed days when wearing heels is not an option, that’s when my combat boots come into action. These boots are perfect for walking, they keep the foot very warm and give a lot of personality to any outfit.
Sweaters
Fall is the perfect time to take out that sweater that has been hidden in your closet for centuries. I love how it can go well with a simple pair of jeans, a skirt, and even over a dress.
I like to have several sweaters in neutral colors. It’s a very versatile piece of clothing that can be combined in different ways. Also, make sure to have some fun sweaters with a pattern or even stripes.
Coats & Blazers
Having a good coat collection is essential. Since I lived most of my life in Caracas, I never needed to own coats because we have very tropical weather. When I moved to Mexico, where winters can get colder than in Venezuela, my collection began to grow and my love for layers began. Now that I live in Canada, I’m counting the days until fall so I can take these outfits out for a spin. 🤭
Make sure to invest in pieces that have different levels of protection against the cold. By doing this, you can adapt to the temperature of the place where you live without exceeding yourself and start getting hot the minute after you step out of the house.
A trick to having a varied collection of coats is to think about the different contexts to use them. A black or gray blazer that is heavy and below the hips is one of my essentials for work or a business meeting. ‘Teddy’ coats are perfect for going out with friends and give a feminine and cozy yet chic touch to your outfit.
Many of these coats can be reused during the winter with warmer pieces underneath.
